He bites his tongue to keep from saying anything stupid. Clearly he is not going to convince his grandfather with words alone. "I would be one of your soldiers, if you'll permit it." He's sure that looks like a laughable suggestion, but dammit, he means it. He's got the training after all. He wouldn't be any worse than most.
