Some assholes are sneaking up on them, and honest, he hasn't got any quarrel with whatever these Barrayars are fighting for. He understands where they're coming from. He's defended his home from a superior force before. He understands how horrible it feels, to wonder if it will still be your home in a couple days. But he also knows the rules of war, and he wouldn't give a shit about the feeble feelings of some random soldier outside the front gates. He doesn't expect them to make a kindly exception for him, and he'll return the favor.
