[ York nods along, trying to keep up with all the information Wash is giving him. Constructing a timeline in his head, a path that made Wash into the person that's sitting next to York now. Wash isn't answering everything and he's guessing there's a reason for that, but he doesn't know what it is so he's just going to run with 'it isn't necessary' for now.

And then Wash meets his gaze and tells him that the others are gone.

The Meta. He knows that name from communications, knows that it's the thing that Maine became because of Sigma. It's the thing that killed Carolina and now the thing that killed his best friend. Something tightens in York's chest and refuses to let go, to let him breathe. He pushes away from the table and doubles over with his elbows on his knees. He hadn't been there, hadn't found North in time, not that the two of them would have had much better chances, probably.

'The others' Wash said. Does that mean Tex, too? But he was just with her. She must have run off again, must have--

--wait.

Does that mean him?

York doesn't have the strength to ask, just puts his head in his hands to give himself a moment. He can feel Wash's eyes on him, and when he finally looks up again his face is pale but his features are set with determination. ]

Just tell me you got it. For Maine, for Carolina, for North... for me.
