Pearl's shoulders tense when Jasper steps closer, and she shoots the other gem another icy glare. After everything else she's been through today, she is so tired, and this is the last conversation she ever expected, or ever wanted to be having right now. The end of the war isn't exactly an easy topic for her to discuss.

...Jasper's entitled and demanding tone isn't exactly endearing her to the idea of explaining, either. But she wants the quartz to hear this. She wants her to know, to be horrified by what happened.

"It was the Diamonds," she spits, voice quaking, recalling the bitter memory. "When it became clear that they weren't going to win the colony back from us, they retreated from Earth, taking with them only whatever soldiers managed to make it back to the drop ships in time. And then..."

Pearl breaks off there, shaking her head.
