She knows that voice, can guess what's behind it: worry, mostly, and anger, and anger specifically at himself for not coming here earlier and making sure she didn't do something he thought was stupid. (Something, she has to admit, that is pretty stupid in retrospect, but mostly done for smart reasons. Well, smart reasons and loneliness.) It's the voice of a man who knows there are reasons to be pissed, just waiting for the world to hand him one.

And that's why she's already bracing herself for whatever he blows up with. Her answer's quiet, but it's not meek. Looking right at him, she says, "Everything. I had to tell somebody."
