[ It's actually tempting for a moment. Byerly would be exposing himself as much as Miles if he did tell, and Miles might be able to deny it if he wanted to. It would be a cruel thing to do to Byerly - speaking of betrayal - but he could do it. And either way he'd know. Maybe prove himself right. Prove that the spark he'd felt was a mistake, a misfire from long underuse. Thinking of Byerly as attractive, what nonsense. Miles has always been straight as an arrow.

(He's mad with curiosity anyway. What would it feel like? Would he feel the same way? Has he been depriving himself or was this a more recent development--?)

But Byerly can't possibly be doing this for the right reasons. Even if he goal isn't betrayal, it's surely meant to get a rise out of Miles. One way or another. He turns his head after too long of a moment. Feels red creep up along his neck and ears. Byerly doesn't want him for anything but embarrassment. ]
