"I'm not drinking anything," she answers, though her eyes slide over to the bottle of wine. She's never tasted wine before--only moonshine, and not the maple-flavoured kind. "But I could drink some wine."
No one will know the difference if she tries it, and she'll only let herself have a cupful. If she's measured about it--small sips, only one glass--it won't change anything. She probably won't hit that point where everything feels unimportant compared to the warm glow of drunkenness, but she's not drinking to feel that. She's drinking to do something fun with Sonia.
She's just taking precautions, too.
"Okay." She pours her cup of mead into an empty, abandoned cup near them. Reaching for Sonia's bottle, she explains, "I say something I've never done. If you have, then you drink, and if you haven't, then I drink. And then it's your turn. Like...I've never been to Beta Colony."
