She shifts on the log, drawing the knife so he can see it. It's not as good as the hunting knife she used to carry--in her eyes, at least--but it'll do its job, if and when she needs it. There's a note of pride in her voice as she adds, "But I get this, and everyone else has to borrow knives from the armory."
That's what makes it worthwhile. She's armed for as long as she follows orders. Who cares if it means having to follow a few orders to get to that point?
