Sonia blinks at that, a little thrown, which admittedly isn't hard to do right now. Byerly had told her his own tall tale, one that even seems sort of plausible given everything else that's happened, and she's still not entirely sure she believes him. But Byerly, she knows, is terrible at being honest, and so even truths are peppered with lies that are almost impossible to detangle.
"Um," she says, her brain still catching up to her mouth. But this is Miles. Miles doesn't deal in half-truths, does he? Secrets, maybe -- everyone here has secrets -- but Miles is...safe. She can trust him.
She blinks at him again. "I'll try," she says provisionally, but then quickly adds, "but I promise to keep it a secret."
