Beth laughs, though something in the back of her mind says see, see, this is why you can't trust him. He puts on personas the way other people put on coats. But at a moment like this, it's funny, even charming, and she wants tonight to be something better than other conversations they've had. She quiets that little voice--just for now and who cares if he's pretending to be someone else tonight?--and raises her brow at him.

"I already told you that," she answers, a little smug. If he doesn't remember, she's not going to repeat it--not without some needling, anyway. "If you heard eleven, you're going deaf."
