Wash is quiet, until he gets his own food, watching her when her own expression falls slightly, when her voice sobers. He nudges her lightly in the arm with an elbow, gestures with a tip of his head for her to follow as he moves to find them somewhere to settle down with their food.

"We're doing all we can, for them." And he knows, he knows that it should be more. He wants so badly for it to be more. But there's only so much they can do when their resources are stretched thin as it is.
