There are resources here for them, certainly. But more than that? There is unrest. Disunity. What they stand to gain compared to what they retain through their 'independence'? There is no comparison. These people would be able to sustain themselves much more efficiently. They would become part of a culture dedicated to art, to learning, to crafting a universe where there is no war.
