Survival.

[ There's no shame in his face now. No joy, either, but just a solemn sort of nobility. Oh, he does act the part, and right now the part he's acting is someone a bit wounded, a bit desperate, yes, but someone completely and utterly sincere. Honestly - sometimes lying gives him joy, and sometimes it does not. Lying to her gives him no joy. But, well...one does what one must for one's loyalties. ]

We both believe in avoiding the shedding of blood. And an honorable war - I know well from experience; I was born during a civil war myself - an honorable war ends in a wash of blood. So I fight dishonorably. I lie and I cheat and I manipulate. [ He lowers his eyes, now, and tilts his head in a bow. ] And, I hope, in that way, I save a few lives. Is that an unworthy thing to do, my lady?
