[ Oaths and honor ultimately mean very little, to Wash. Just a different kind of promise, and those can always, always be broken -- but he's always appreciated the sentiment, the intent behind a gesture. He's lost a lot of people, has left just as many people behind, has had so many people leave him behind, too, no matter what promises are made between them -- but in the meanwhile, before that inevitably happens. It's always nice to pretend, for a while. Always nice to know that in those moments at least the intent is genuine, even if it changes.
