I know, I know.

[She's not actually annoyed at Wash, exactly. She's more annoyed at the fact that he's not wrong, and that she's stuck doing this in the first place. But it was what it was. Her comfort was never something she prioritized much, let alone in a war she found herself caring about more than the she had planned on just because of how much she hated everything about the Cetagandans. Hated how everything about being on base just reminded her of so many of the worst pieces of her past.]

I don't either. But what I want doesn't matter with things as they are. And you know it.

[He he said as a friend and so her tone is softer, more resigned than anything. She doesn't have a lot of friends, especially not here. And yet she can't imagine walking away in the middle of the war, without ensuring that the Cetagandans are dealt with. They're too familiar a threat, makes her feel like she's choking to breathe.]

Could always use a friend, though.

[Her lips curve into a smirk, a little strained, a little too tired.]
