He lets out a quiet noise of agreement, nodding. "The worst aspects of human nature - suspicion, distrust, those ingrained biases - are so often drawn out by living a life like this, constantly on guard, brimming with tension."

And of course, he's made note to himself, that this man has come from the other side he's heard about. Something to keep in mind, when he's only being given half the picture, one perspective without the other to consider.

After a moment, he speaks again, "I'm not beyond empathizing, but it's hardly an excuse. I wonder how long it can hold."
