Because of how we got here. I'm sure it's some slipspace anomaly or the other, but it clearly doesn't operate like a normal tear or wormhole. Not just differences in space, but time, but all keyed into the same one for some reason. If there were a way back -- reverse the effect, trace ourselves back through it -- it'd likely just take us back wherever we came from.
If there was a way to control that, that'd be incredible. But also a problem.
