His instinct, here, is to reach out and provide some sort of a connection - he hesitates slightly, he knows of her better than he knows her himself, of course. But here she is, pouring her heart out, he can't just hold stoic in the face of that.
He reaches out a hand, slowly enough to allow her refuse it, so that he can place it steadily on her shoulder, hoping to provide some - any - comfort, "I'm not going to tell you that everything will be all right. I'm sure you know better than to buy into a platitude, but you're not alone here anymore. You are a Starfleet officer and, as far as I'm concerned, that makes me responsible for you as long as I'm here. I will do everything that I can to help us - everyone - get out of this situation safely."
And then, with another warm smile toward the infant, "Including our new friend here."
