"Sshh," Sonia says, just as much soothing as it is quieting, and draws him back to her tent with a reassuring pat on his arm, though she still looks serious.

"It isn't that simple. And I think...I think Count Piotr was right, in the end." She doesn't look happy to admit it, but she believes it. "Of course I'd never have said anything on purpose. But -- you saw how I was after he left, how much it had hurt...and then I was captured. Could I have kept up that act convincingly if I knew? If I'd known, I'd have just been worried, not angry."

She shakes her head as she pulls open the tent flap and helps Tucker inside. "A couple of weeks ago, he tried to break me out. Took out the guards around me and tried to escape with me. We were caught pretty quickly, and...that was it for his cover. I know they fast-pentaed him almost immediately." She looks troubled, not looking at Tucker as she sits down. "No one likes a spy, Tucker. I think...I think if Wash and Lucy hadn't rescued us when they did, they might have executed him shortly after. And he knew that was a possibility. He also knew it was a possibility he might die trying to get me out."
