[ There's a surge of adrenaline, of course. The initial terror. Because there's instinct and reaction, both the inborn mortal terror of attack and a more honed, trained reaction. His arm comes up, the forearm slipping upwards to provide pressure against Wash's arm, positioned to go up further and take the blow in the place of his neck. The left leg comes forward, between Wash's, ready to sweep it forwards and trip him. He's positioned to ward off the blow if need be -

But as soon as the initial reaction fades, it's irritation - not terror - that's left behind. His face is hard with annoyance. But the fear recedes. He doesn't pull away. ]
