"Mmm," is all Ratchet says for a moment, letting York grip his wrist, settling York a little more comfortably against him but not moving otherwise. "If you want the professional medical opinion of someone who's never dealt with a neurally implanted artificial intelligence before, it sounds like you ran quite a few things through Delta subconsciously, and not having it--him, I mean--is forcing your brain to start picking up the slack again, and it's not doing a great job connecting remembered stimulus to things that are happening to you immediately. Being locked in a windowless box with a pack of strangers on an unknown planet with no weapons and no gear and no clue how we got here is probably doing wonders for how stressed you are, which I imagine is helping tremendously. I wouldn't be worried if you don't feel or see or hear things properly, sometimes, or if you forget things temporarily. Your brain has to relearn those connections, and it's going to take it some time, but you can and you will get better. It might not be a party, but it'll happen." He nudges York's head with his shoulder a little.

"I've encountered several peer-reviewed papers based on extensive clinical testing that indicate beating your head against a wall will not actually help, please take my word for it. What do you think helped you come down?"
