[ game update: february ]

february
Last month was an eventful one for everyone involved. After a couple of weeks' quarantine, both the Barrayarans and the Cetagandans decided that their new, questionably welcome guests were not much of a threat. In fact, the Barrayarans could use a few extra hands. The Cetagandans, on the other hand, are letting the exotics keep themselves busy with personal entertainments and interviews.

Piotr allowed some outsiders to join his ranks for a few missions, and the exotics got themselves vear near or into trouble a few times. A scouting mission reconnoitering the Cetagtandans' power supply went awry on multiple levels, and resulted in Lakshmi's capture by the Cetagandans, and Duv's capture by the Barrayarans.

Unexpectedly, another couple of groups of mysterious strangers appear in the night, one in the foothills, the other down in the lowlands. The Barrayarans don't see much sense in doing anything but taking the outsiders in, and the Cetagandans certainly won't turn away a fresh batch of exotics.

A few visitors from Riverfall Village arrive with a young boy in tow, who, despite Piotr's declination to take him in, stays at camp anyway. The villagers bring with them more in the way of heavy winter wool clothes and blankets and extra firewood for the incipient cold front.

New Loyalty Perks: Loyalty Gamble (both sides), Scout's Honor (Barrayar), Double Agent (Barrayar), Training: Arts I (Cetaganda), Join the Fight (Cetaganda)

weather
Extreme temperatures: The weather this month is going to be especially very rough on the Barrayarans. A nasty cold front moves in toward the Dendarii Mountains, bringing with it high winds and more snow, although not as much as last month. In the mountains, highs are around -15C°/5°F during the day, -18°C/0°F with windchill; with the temperature at night reaching lows of -25°C/-13°F, -28°C/-18°F with windchill. At sea level, highs average -12°C/10F, -16°C/3°F with windchill, and lows around -20°C/-4°F, -23°C/-9°F with windchill. The mountains will see about 25cm/10in of snow, with only 13cm/5in of snow down at sea level.

Yikes.

Food: DEPLETED: Early in the month, the part of the cave where they're storing the majority of their food supply collapses, rendering it all inaccessible or destroyed. With supplies already stretched thin in the harsh weather, the Barrayarans resort to slaughtering a couple of their horses for food until they can replenish their supply.
Water: Adequate: The camp's only thawed water supply is also stored inside the cave, although in these temperatures it still requires heating. Additional water can be obtained from the mostly-frozen creek at the south edge of the camp. There's a moratorium on bathing right now, although no one really wants to take a bath in these temperatures anyway.
Weapons/Equipment: Low: The Barrayarans still have weapons to go around – for now – but right now they don't have any means of making or obtaining new ones.
Medical Supplies: Low: Medical supplies are never in great supply, but they're doing alright...for now. All they have right now is herbal medicine basic field supplies, although the villagers have brought a little more in the way of bandages and naturally cultivated antibiotics.
Facilities/Manpower: Adequate: The soldiers, with the help of the outsiders, were able to mend the worst of the tents before the harsh weather set in. Unfortunately, they still have the same number of tents as before, and can't spare an extra for the new outsiders.

status
Things aren't looking great for the Barrayarans right now. Three new outsiders means more people to care for; unfortunately, since they can't spare any extra tents, all twelve outsiders are crammed into a single tent. It's pretty cramped, but on the bright side, all that body heat is probably for the better.
On the 3rd, the Barrayarans and outsiders will awake to discover that the part of the cave where they keep the majority of their food supply to have collapsed. Plans are immediately made to try and recoup their food supply, but in the meantime, they've resorted to eating horse meat.

intelligence
The Barrayarans and the outsiders learned a considerable amount last month, including:
  • There is at least one traitor in the Barrayaran camp, something Piotr had suspected after the location of their last camp was discovered, but the identity of the traitor is a total unknown
  • There are outsiders among the Cetagandans as well
  • The guard rotations and basic security measures used for the Cetagandan base gates
  • Lakshmi and Lieutenant Vorhalas were both taken prisoner by the Cetagandans
  • Some security and technical specs of the Cetagandan base's generators, including knowledge of the secondary backup generator and its location, though not its express purpose

resources
Food: Abundant: Thanks to the recent supply drop, they not only have a few new species of vegetable to grow in the Grow Labs, but a hefty supply of MREs.
Water: Abundant: Despite the nasty cold front, the Cetagandans' water supply remains safe, clean, and unfrozen. The supply drop brought fresh filters for their water treatment plant that were recently installed.
Weapons/Equipment: Surplus: The supply drop also brought a whole hell of a lot of weapons. A lot of these are for distribution to nearby outposts, but the Cetagandans are not lacking in armaments at all. They also received some new materials for their scientific endeavors.
Medical Supplies: Abundant: The supply drop brought freshened up their medical supplies as well. There's no risk of running out of synergine or any other kind of drug any time soon.
Facilities/Manpower: Abundant: The infiltration last month unfortunately resulted in a few Cetagandan casualties, but this doesn't hurt them nearly as much as it might've the Barrayarans, considering they outnumber the guerillas by a factor of about 65 to 1. The damage done to the backup generator room door and any other security sabotaged by the Barrayarans are quickly repaired once the supply shuttle comes in with new materials.

status
The Cetagandans have found themselves with a few new exotics as well, and with Duv captured, they make an even dozen, so the exotics' room is at capacity. A supply drop by shuttle comes on the 5th, carrying food, weapons and supplies not only for the base, but for distribution to the occupying forces of the nearby cities as well. The weather outside is pretty harsh, but the bunks are comfortably climate-controlled. Everything here is running smoothly.

intelligence
The Cetagandans themselves are being pretty stingy with information, but with some initiative on the part of the exotics and a little luck, the following has been discovered:
  • Kaidan and Ratchet learned that Cetagandan scientists found traces of what seems like wormhole activity where the exotics appeared, but they don't think it has to do with the active wormhole that brought the Cetagandans here
  • Darkstalker and Lapis learned that there's a traitor by the name of Vorbataille among the Barrayarans feeding the Cetagandans information, and he's not the only one; they have reestablished communication with him via dead drop in a nearby village, and gotten word of an incoming infiltration operation; they also learned that there are exotics on the other side
  • Between Wash, York, Duv and Daryl, they got confirmation that there are indeed exotics on the other side, and they even know some of them personally

Whether or not these characters shared what they learned with the other exotics is up to them.
